BTW, I have recently downloaded lots of other dmg large files without any problems. This is happening on an iMAC 27' late 2009 (i7 core Intel, 16Gig RAM, 500Gig SSD drive), running OSX 10.9.3 (with all updates) using Chrome ( Version 35.0.1916.114 - the latest version). Downloaded Office for Mac but.dmg File will not execute I have purchased and down loaded the Office suite for Mac. The file that downloaded is now on my desktop as X17-45975.dmg When I go to open the file, I get a pop-up window that says The following disk image couldnt be opened; Reason is listed as 'not recognized' Is there a solution to fixing this vs having the file download for another 4 hours??? What is a DMG file?
OS X El Capitan suddenly can't open DMG files. So the issue is not with the current DMG only. I restarted and that did not make a difference. I ran First Aid in DiskUtility and it reported that my drive was corrupt and needed repairing. I therefore restarted my mac with cmd + r pressed, selected Disk Utility and ran the repair.
